We Went To Taiwan & Started A Bike Company...

11:30
Everybody and their kid brother thinks they could go to Taiwan with a suitcase of cash and get bikes built that are every bit as good as what you find at you local bike shop. But is that true? What does it take to go overseas and start your own bike brand? Vernon Felton and Mike Levy went to Taiwan to find out. Check out more on Pinkbike! Should you support your local bike shop?

Some people refuse to go to bike shops, and others will shame you for buying online. Where's the middle ground? In this video, I hope to bring some sensible moderation to the issue. Check out Squatch in Brevard, NC http://www.squatchbikes.com/

She Finds her Dream Bike at GIANT in Taipei | Bike Shops of Taiwan #01

12:36
While traveling around Taiwan, we stopped at a few Giant Bike shops that focused mainly on rentals since we were using those bikes for our cycling tour along the east coast of Taiwan from Hualien to Taitung. I was curious how these Giant bike shops compared to the regular stores, so we decided to check out one of the main Giant Bike shops in downtown Taipei to see what the bicycle shops are like here in Taiwan. The shop we visited is pretty small, but makes full use of its space with lots of road bikes hanging from the ceiling. One of those bikes, the Giant TCR Advanced Pro Team, caught my wife's eye and she quickly fell in love... Unfortunately, we don't have the money to buy such a nice road bike right now, but I was still pretty to see some desire from her to get a new bike. There were also a lot of useful components for sale much cheaper than what I can buy in the US and in Japan. Things like bottles, bottle cages, frame bags, bikepacking bags, helmets, etc.. Hope you guys enjoy this tour of this Giant Bike Shop in Taipei, Taiwan! Keep in mind that there are a lot of different Giant stores, and there will likely be some differences depending on where you go. Crazy day in the Bike Shop! // The Bike Shop VLOG #3

14:26
WOOH! Today was super crazy at the shop! I'm receiving orders from manufacturers, putting everything into inventory, getting new orders on our website and shipping them out, rebuilding the website, working on bikes, filming videos, answering the phones, and then on top of that doing a little bookkeeping! This kind of day happens at least twice a week, so this is a common occurrence in the task-heavy bike shop life! I'm definitely looking forward to adding some staff to the shop though, which is hopefully sometime soon! 2020 KTM 250SXF - Dirt Bike Magazine

05:33
For this edition of the 20s we take a look at the 2020 KTM 250SXF . This bike was all new for 2019 and returns to the 2020 model line up with revisions including a vented air box and new suspension settings. Can the changes made in 2020 result in a Shooutout win? Only time will tell. Check out what Mark Tilley had to say about our first day of testing at Glen Helen Raceway. Santa Cruz Bronson: Bike Magazine's Exclusive "Blueprint" Story on the New 650b Bike

06:55
Bike Magazine's Seb Kemp has been the only person outside of Santa Cruz Bicycle's inner circle to have extensively ridden the Bronson. Since last September Kemp was riding one of the raw metal, raw design mules and since December he has spent time on a pre-production, carbon fiber version. Somewhere between those two bikes a radical change was made to the Bronson. The story behind the Bronson is more interesting than that of most bikes because during the early stages of prototype testing, 650b wheels reared their head and made Santa Cruz Bicycles take a long, hard look at the actual benefits of the middle wheel size. One thing that this behind-the-scenes look has given Bike Magazine is an intimate look at how a bike goes from raw, rideable concept to full-blown finished product. This is the personal account of one rider's struggle to accept the new wheels and the story of an entire company trying to make the right choice. Ibis Ripley 29er--Bike Magazine's Exclusive "Blueprint" R&D Story

06:57
The Ibis Ripley is a 120-millimeter travel, 29er uber-trail bike. The Ripley is capable of rocking a 140-milimeter fork up front, yet boasts a frame weight of just 5.2 pounds. This is not, however, the bike that Ibis originally planned to build. Ibis had intended to design a cross-country 29er with just 100-millimeters of travel. A kind of switchblade of a bike for the XC racer crowd. So they went to Dave Weagle (he of DW-Link fame) and asked him to create the simplest, lightest version of the DW-Link. They wanted the lightest and stiffest bike in class. Weagle surprised Ibis by suggesting that they use two small eccentric links housed in the seat tube, as opposed to external linkages. There'd be several benefits: the eccentrics themselves would be light and small, plus they'd allow for a shorter rear end, more tire and front derailleur clearance and they'd keep the swirly suspension bits from getting coated in mud and muck. Tools For The Home Bike Shop

17:44
Every time I upload a video about building a bike on a budget/on the cheap I tend to get the criticism that tools are extremely expensive and that most people can’t have access to this kind of stuff. This video and the list below are out to prove that wrong. Also.. there was another blizzard. ====================================================== Grab a Norton Tee!: https://teespring.com/spindatt-x-norton#pid=211&cid=101932&sid=front https://teespring.com/stores/spindatt ====================================================== I quickly searched on amazon for tools I would personally feel comfortable ordering to rebuild my home shop on the cheap. 2004 Honda CR250 2 Stroke Off-Road Project - Dirt Bike Magazine

04:01
This Honda CR250 two-stroke project was set up for the trails. It wasn’t a complete rebuild but it was given tons of TLC and a lot of bolt-on items as you can see.The P3 Carbon pipe guard offers protection for the FMF pipe and the Cycra skid plate is originally for 2009-15 KX450. It does require a substantial amount of modification and does not bolt right up.An oversized IMS tank is a necessity for any trail bike build. The more gas you have the more fun you can have!Specbolt Nickel Würks bolt kits are popping up everywhere! This engine also has a Hinson complete clutch, VForce reed cage, CV4 radiator hoses and a new Vertex top-end. TM Designworks and Supersprox Stealth sprocket are a tough combination and great for handling off-road abuse. This build is what we think every two-stroke build will be but almost never is. New top-end with some Tom Morgan cylinder porting and lets go ride. Wish they all were that easy! Yamaha YZ65 versus KTM 65SX - Dirt Bike Magazine

06:20
There’s no doubt that Yamaha is going after KTM with the YZ65. In amateur racing, the 65 class is dominated by KTMs with just a smattering of Husqvarna TC65s and even fewer Cobra 65s. The Kawasaki KX65 is aimed at play riders and true beginners, so when it comes to racing, the Yamaha’s target is clearly the KTM. When you put the Yamaha and KTM side by side, it’s striking how similar the two bikes are in size and features. They have the same wheelbase (45 inches), the same fuel capacity (0.9 gallon) and both have six-speed gearboxes with nearly identical overall gear ratios, gear for gear. On the track, the two bikes have nearly identical performance. They both are amazingly powerful. In the end, the track performance of the two bikes is so similar that you really shouldn’t make a decision based on that alone. Yamaha did an excellent job of hitting the target. If the bike was any faster, it might have alienated beginners; any slower and it would have lost the serious racers. At this point, it’s more about dealer support and brand identity. Yamaha has made the 65 class a race again. 2019 Special Edition 450 Shootout - Dirt Bike Magazine

08:53
KTM versus Honda versus Husqvarna. Three pro replicas are offered to the public this year: The Honda Works Edition, the Husqvarna Rockstar Edition and the KTM Factory Edition. All are hard to find and pricey. Still, we managed to get them all together this week. We know that these three bikes aren’t really duplicates of what Ken Roczen, Jason Anderson and Marvin Musquin ride. They don’t have works parts, they aren’t set up for Supercross and they aren’t assembled by the factory team. They’re still very special. All three of these bikes offer features and performance going way beyond sticker kits and numbers. We figured that was enough to justify a 450 shootout for special editions. This isn’t just a revisit of the 2019 450 MX shootout. Like all of our shootouts, that was executed with the somewhat nebulous average rider in mind. We used a cross-section of test riders of various ages and skill levels, crunched the data and declared a winner. That bike was the 2019 Kawasaki KX450, which was a bike that everyone could love. This time, we’re changing the rules. These three bikes aren’t average. They represent the very best that each company can produce on an assembly line, short of building a real works bike. They’re elite bikes for elite riders. Accordingly, we only invited only pro level test riders to be a part of the shootout. All three make more power than their alter egos. In the case of the Husky, the difference is barely perceptible. You get a little more with the KTM, and you get a lot more with the Honda. It’s a rocket! The KTM and Husky turn well and have reasonable straight-line stability. They are defined, however, by their lack of weight. They both weigh 222 pounds without fuel. That’s downright incredible. The Honda is around 16 pounds heavier, and it can’t escape that fact. Some riders report that the Honda steers lightly, but the flipside to that is that it’s more nervous at speed. In the original shootout, the KTM and Husky were called out for having harsh front suspension. That wasn’t necessarily the case here. With minor internal changes, increased air pressure and the new triple clamps, both the KTM and the Husky were much improved over the standard models. Most, but not all, of our pro experts rated the KTM and Husky fork higher than the Honda fork. The Honda’s valving and spring rate are the same as those of the standard model, but feel completely different because of the coatings. Championship Winning 2 Stroke 125 Project - Dirt Bike Magazine

06:12
We give you an exclusive first look at our latest KTM 125 2 Stroke project with Pro Circuit and WP North America. Pro Circuit put a ton of time into developing the engine on our KTM125 including designing a new exhaust that not only produces more power but is also lees likely to be damaged. The crew at WP dialed in the e fork and shock for out specific application. A Supersprox drivetrain and Dunlop MX33 tires helped get all the new found power to the ground. The low profile GP rear chain guide from TM Designs is built specifically for motocross use.We kept the stock bore and stroke so the bike is legal for the 125cc class. Pro Circuit ported the cylinder, milled the head and installed a Vertex piston made to their specs sold exclusively through them. Most of the engine hardware was replaced with Specbolt Nickel Würks pieces.Rekluse now has Torque Drive setup for the KTM125. This allows you to adjust the amount of engagement through different spring configurations and contains more plates overall than the stock unit. The new system can be used with a OEM clutch basket.AMP Wheels made exclusively for AOMC added some bling to our build with anodized orange hubs, silver spokes and black rims.Backyard Designs USA topped the build off with a semi-custom graphics kit that gave us that factory look we wanted. 2019 Beta 430RR-S - Dirt Bike Magazine

06:22
Beta is a small company that builds its products in Florence, Italy--motors, frames and all. In this case, being small is a big advantage. Beta isn’t scrutinized as closely as Honda, KTM or Husqvarna when it comes to emissions and noise testing. The bike is clean and quiet enough to pass the standards set forth for a small importer. The testing and certification process is still lengthy, bureaucratic and expensive. That’s why Beta doesn’t have a dedicated off-road four-stroke in the standard line up any more. These days, a true off-road bike is required to go through a similar gauntlet of regulations. Beta does offer a closed-course competition four-stroke as a limited edition model. Beta has four dual-sport bikes that share most of the same parts and look nearly identical. There’s a 350, a 490, a 430 and a 500. All use the same electric-start motor with only differences in bore and stroke. It’s a double overhead cam four-valver with a six-speed gearbox and Synerject fuel injection. The chassis has a steel back bone frame with Sachs suspension. The rear shock uses linkage. The wheels have Nissin brakes and a Trail Tech GPS is standard equipment. 2018 Yamaha YZ125 - Dirt Bike Magazine

For this edition of One Twenty Fives we take a look at our 4th bike in the series, the 2018 Yamaha YZ125. Beyond blue wheels and new graphics this bike is identical to the 2017 model. That isn't a bad thing as this is one of Dirt Bike Magazine's favorite bikes to ride in the stable. With the pressure from KTM/Husky/TM on further development of 125s, we are hoping to see Yamaha bring something new to the table and keep the Japanese two stroke flame lit for years to come. $149 Mountain Bike vs mountain - The Walmart Enduro

12:00
Welcome to Pisgah Forest, home to a huge array of remote and challenging mountain bike trails. To get anywhere here, you need to climb a few thousand feet. To get out alive your bike needs to hold up to roots, sharp rocks, and sustained braking. There’s no cell phone reception out here, and the trails are far too narrow for emergency vehicles. When your very life depends on your equipment, what value would you place on reliability? That fact that we’re at Walmart is pretty irrelevant. It could just as easily be Target, Amazon.com, or even Canadian Tire. They all offer the same thing—bikes built and assembled to the lowest spec possible. With names like trouble, wipeout, ambush, and carnage, these bikes deliver what they promise, but today we’re staying optimistic. Alex and I are taking our time and weighing our options. Even in a sea of super cheap bikes, we can choose the ones that suit our priorities best. We settled on a pair of Genesis V2100’s, which had front discs, threadless headsets, and half decent saddles. As we checked out, reality started to set in. We’d be relying on these bikes for over 5000 feet of elevation change. We’d need all the help we could get. Back at the house I packed everything from sockets to gorilla tape, to zip ties, to extra food, lest we get stranded on the far reaches of mount Mitchell. We set out with our new bikes in tow, and kept two main goals in mind; Make it down the trail in one piece, and finish it off with Mexican food. What started as a ride quickly devolved into a grueling hike. It wasn’t the gearing, or even the weight—we just tried and couldn’t. The tires had no traction, and the bikes flexed like crazy under any kind of torque. Once the grade evened out we had a much easier time, and started to clear some serious ground. We were enjoying nature, and It wasn’t long before we reached our first downhill. Although it was only 50 yards, it was telling. Alex and I settled in for a long ride up the old Mitchell toll road, knowing full well that the climb might be the easy part. We were climbing at a snail’s pace, painstakingly choosing our lines. Our cranks started creaking, and our hubs began to eat themselves, but we picked our way up the toll road without encountering any major mechanical failures. In fact, we were enjoying ourselves. For $149, Alex and I were taking part in an activity enjoyed by the likes of dentists and jewelers, with their pretty $6000 bikes. What do those bikes do that these can’t anyway? On my trail bike, this janky rock garden is a blast. On this bike, I couldn’t wait for it to be over. As you can see, Alex had been going much slower than me. He had the sense to. His bike had not one bit of damage to it, while I was nursing a blown up fork and no drivetrain whatsoever. It was clear by this comparison that speed is the major destructive force on these bikes. As I edit this video, my hands, arms, shoulders, and torso still hurt from this ride. On my trail bike, the brakes can be applied with one finger. On the Genesis, braking is a full body workout that leaves you in pain for days. We had made it to the end, sort of…. we still needed to get to the car. Luckily it was mostly downhill and I could hitch a ride on Alex’s backpack. After beating ourselves up for the better part of 5 hours, there was only one thing on our minds. Playing around on department store bikes might be fun and games, but I found that riding one on an actual mountain bike excursion is not fun, and most definitely not a game. Still I’m amazed that Alex’s bike survived. Although he was using a lot more restraint than I was, everything from the gears to the brakes were working at the bottom. To Walmart’s credit, there are warnings on these bikes that tell you not to take them on mountain bike trails. After our journey, I’d have reason to believe that on a flat dirt path, the Genesis V2100 would inconvenience you at the very most, not kill you. But just like sushi, tattoos, and cosmetic surgery, you’ll regret cheaping out on a bike that you really intend on exploring the mountains with. If you want to fall in love with mountain biking, try renting something first, or save up $400 for an entry level hardtail. In the meantime you can hike these trails for free. With one of these you may be hiking anyway. If you enjoyed this video, I have plenty of others on this topic. Let me know what you think below, and better yet give me some ideas of what to do with these next. Thanks for riding with me today, and I’ll see you next time. This aluminum frame CR500 2 stroke conversion was constructed with the help of AEO powersports. They used the engine out of an old motorcycle and used the chassis of a 2017 CRF450R. All the major frame modifications were done by Edge Finder. Dual exhaust system from FMF was added and yes it a fully functional exhaust system. The suspension was revalved but also was modified to make room for the dual exhaust and air boot. TM designs, SXS, P3, Scotts, and more added to the build with some of the products.
